Da Lat in the South of Vietnam

Da Lat Romantic City

Located on Lam Vien (Langbiang Plateau) high lands, part of the greater Central high lands of Vietnam, Da Lat is 1475m above sea level and is 305 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City. Da Lat attracts all visitors by its amazing French architecture, green pine trees, beautiful sceneries and historical monuments as well as cool climate most of the year. Therefore, Da Lat is considered as“little Paris in tropical zone” (Le Petit Paris).  For a long time, Da Lat has been one of the most famous tourist cities of Vietnam and a romantic city for honeymoon holiday in the country.


The name Da Lat originates from the language of the local ethnic group Lat and its original meaning is "Stream of the Lat”. Da Lat's specific sights are pine wood (forming the name: "City of thousands of pine trees") with twisting roads and tree marigold blossom in the winter. The city's temperate weather stands in contrast to Vietnam's otherwise tropical climate. Mist covering the valleys almost year-round leads to its name "City of eternal spring."
Traveling to Da Lat, tourists not only enjoy “climbing mountains, wading streams” but also visit Bao Dai’s villas or ancient pagodas and churches of ethnic people (Linh Phuoc pagoda, Truc Lam monastery…). Going into the city, you can discover a "museum" of the waterfalls (Pongour, Cam Ly, Prenn, Dalanta…), the lakes (Than Tho Lake, Tuyen Lam Lake, Xuan Huong Lake…), the valleys of flowers and grass hills and try products of Da Lat include many fruits: red persimmons, plums, peaches, avocados, many unique traditional dishes and other specific souvenirs of Dalat.
Da Lat has cultural identity of legend Highland. At the village festival, visitors can see local people dancing, singing, playing music with the unique instrument that its sound like wind howling, waterfall flowing over the cliffs. Tourists will be surprised not only by flowery and romantic Da Lat but also by the spectacular adventure game here. Conquering the mountain Langbiang or mountain Pinhatt overlooking the entire of Tuyen Lam Lake or cross the La Ba River by rubber boat... All adventures are waiting for you to discover Dalat.
With these advantages, Dalat has developed different types of tourism such as: relaxing tourism, eco-tourism, cultural tourism, sports tourism, conference tourism... and became one of the famous tourist attractions for domestic and foreign tourists. Dalat is a wonderful place to visit most of the year. The best time of year to visit Dalat is during the annual flower festival which usually falls in December or early January. The local rainy season is from April to November. In the wet season, you may find Dalat drearier than otherwise, however, it is still enjoyable in the mornings. At the end of summer (around March), Da Lat Vietnam is dry, not as green as usual, which can spoil the impression of the town for some visitors.
